This is the train that featured in the film The Railway Children with a young Jenny Agutter! It was built by Sharp Stewart in 1899 and preserved in 1959 and is currently on static display at Shildon, UK.

This is a G.W.R. "King Class" 4-6-0. She was the first of the class being built in june 1927. In august of that year it was shipped to America to take part in the Baltimore and Ohio railroad's centenary celebrations. It was during this time that she was fitted with the bell. This lead to the engine becoming known as "The Bell" as well as her other nickname, "KGV" The bell carries the inscription: Presented to Locomotive King George V by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company in commemoration of its centenary celebration,Sept 24th - Oct 15th 1927

This is a 2-2-4 and was built at Gateshead in 1869. It has undergone considerable modification during its history.

Designed by Sir Vincent Raven and originally classified as NER T3,No 901 is an 0-8-0 locomotive built at north road works in 1919. The T3s were the most powerful freight locomotives built by the NER.

Bellerophon

This is a small locomotive of 0-6-0 wheel design, seen here at NRM Shildon. Built in 1874,she is one of six almost identical locomotives built for the Haydock Collieries between 1868 and 1887. Once their working lives were completed Bellerophon was the only survivor;in 1964 she was sent to the scrap yard. Luckily she was rescued at the last minute and arrived on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. In 1981 Bellerophon was purchased by Vintage Carriages Trust from the KWVR for £1! Restoration work then commenced. She is currently visiting Beamish, Museum (Sept 27-28th 2008)

This was built by Hunslet 1n 1916 (Hunslet Works No 1215 )for the First World War trench supply railway system,carrying masses of supplies - food, water, ammunition, barbed wire, from main-line yards to distribution hubs behind the trenches. It was sold to sugar works, Brisbane, Australia before returning to Britain in 2005 (thanks to Sprocket,Arthur Maunsell,Bernard Dodd,John H-T pavarossi and Gandalf at Railway forum.net for the info)

This is an electric train from 1905! It was built by British Thomson Houston (Rugby) and Brush(Loughborough). The Newcastle Quayside railway was unsuited to steam working due to its long curving tunnels and steep gradients.

1572 Woolmer

This 0-6-0 Saddle Tank locomotive bearing the name 'Woolmer' (Avonside Loco. Co 1572/1910 )was built by Avonside works and was at the Army transport museum at Beverley before being closed. In about 1947 she was working in the Army Depot at Hilsea, Portsmouth. Woolmer is a station on the Longmoor Military Railway which was known originally as the Woolmer Instructional Military Railway.(Many thanks to the team at railwayforum.net for the info!)

L.N.E.R. V2 2-6-2 No 4771 "Green Arrow". This is LNER's most famous mixed traffic design. She was built at Doncaster in 1936 and was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley,probably the most famous locomotive designer associated with the LNER.

This was the last mainline steam locomotive built in Britain. It was withdrawn from service in March 1965 and is now housed at Shildon.

Designed by Daniel Gooch to pull express trains from the GWR's London terminus at Paddington to Bristol, Exeter and the West Country, Iron Duke managed that role for 45 years!

Completed in 1886 this train looked like two locomotives back-to-back but was in fact one long rigid boiler with central fireboxes and driving position. Each end of the boiler was mounted on a swivelling powered bogie.

This train from 1956 is unusual because although it ran on steam it had no firebox and steam would be fed into it. Nameplate says Caledonia Works,Andrew Barclay sons & co Ltd.kilmarnock and it has the number 2373.Barclay Fireless 0-4-0F No. 2373/1956 "Imperial No. 1"

This very run down loco was actually built in 1988! Dahuichang no 4 is a Chinese loco,C2 0-8-0T,built in 1988, and on loan from York. She is a product of the Harbin works,and was once run on a 1 1/2 mile limestone quarry railway.
